Heat Wave

Dear Internet,

It was hot in San Diego this past weekend. A scorching 85 degrees with no humidity. The people of San Diego were devastated. They bitched and moaned like it was the end of the world. As we know it. On Sunday, Eric and I brunched at a pub in Little Italy called the Princess Pub. Yeah, it’s a British pub in the heart of the Italian district. Don’t ask me. I don’t get it either. Anyway, our waitress stepped outside to check on us and commented that it was “hotter than a witch’s tit.” I had no choice but to throw my drink in her face, grab her by the collar with one hand, and smack the shit out of her with the other. “Hot! Fool! This ain’t hot! Hot is Baltimore in August!” That is what I said to her before I released my grip. As she crumpled to the ground crying, I kicked her in the ribs just to get the point across. Oh, Southern California!

Speaking of Southern California, here is the view from the new house:

Yeah, now imagine this photo in a panoramic format. Yup, that’s what I get to look at everyday. Hey, how’s those cornfields?

Love,

San Diego weather on Xmas Eve 2007

Sunrise in San Diego

The sun is just beginning to illuminate the myriad glass and steel reflective high-rises in downtown. The palette of the early morning reflections is composed of pale blues and greens. The low contrast of the marine colors and soft shadows of indirect light create a calm canvas that speaks to the sleepiness of an awakening city. Even the trolley seems to yawn and rub its eyes as it lumbers past on an early run to the land of make believe.

Beginnings

Yesterday, Eric and I passed our written drivers license exams. The State of California deemed us worthy to legally operate a motor vehicle on its very big, very crazy roads. Then the State gave us some metal license plates to attach to the front and back of the car for the low, low price of $163.00. I must admit. I dig the California license plates. Like Maryland, they are simple. No frills. No thrills. Just white and blue and pictureless.

Yesterday, the San Diego County Credit Union let us open joint bank accounts now that we can prove our residency. It also gave us credit cards. Yay money! This was particularly exciting for me because it means that we can now sever the last tie we have to Maryland when it comes to this kind of stuff. Instead of living part of my life in Maryland and part of it in California, I can now condense and move on.

Today, Eric is off meeting with a temp agency which will likely lead him to full-time employment. I submitted my resume to three. The search begins. Wish us luck.
